TV chef Aldo Zilli helped launch the Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival on Monday 28 April at the 106 restaurant at the Brighton Hilton Metropole, where the dates for this September’s festival were announced.
Over 100 guests attended the event, sampling delicious Sussex produce canapés created by Greg Starks the hotel’s executive chef and sipping Sussex wine, cider and fruit juice. The trendiest city’s food festival is a celebration of the best of food and drink available in Sussex and is one of the leading community events in Brighton & Hove’s ‘city of festivals’ annual line up. Last year over 50,000 consumers enjoyed the festival events.
This year, the date for the month long celebration of the best of local food and drink has been fixed from 1st to 30th September starting with the Battle of the Bars - Bar Idol on the 4th, and ending with the Sussex and the Rest of the World market, which will be on Hove Lawns for Sat/Sun 27th & 28th September and ending in a grand finale at Brighton Racecourse on the Monday.
“We have the best festival yet this year, with fantastic outdoor markets and events every single weekend in September,” said Paula Seager, Managing Director of Natural PR and Festival Director.
Festival Chairman Roger Marlowe said that the festival had come of age and was important in helping promote the city as a tourist destination. The festival is organized by a group of enthusiastic volunteer directors who manage it for the love of food, drink and the fun of the events, which bring the community together.
Aldo Zilli led the guests into a taste test to choose the Best Sussex Sausage 2008 and the winning sausage was created by Nigel Heath of J. Heath & Sons Butchers in Eastbourne, using locally-reared pork.
Restaurateurs and bar owners were urged to sign up and get involved with the festival and businesses were asked to sponsor the events which attract between 10,000 and 50,000 food and drink lovers. Anne Busfield, General Manager of the Hilton Brighton Metropole, said that she was proud to host the launch and offer the opportunity for foodies in the city to taste mini samples of Restaurant 106’s summer menu.
