Wired Sussex, a not-for-profit organisation which works with digital media companies based in Brighton and beyond, is launching Brighton Digital Media Jobs Fair on 13 February 2008.
The fair will be held from 12 – 9pm at Jury’s Inn Hotel (directly behind Brighton’s railway station) and will bring together the cream of the city’s thriving digital media companies under one roof to meet and talk to job-seekers.
The event will be run in association with The Argus Newspaper. Companies exhibiting include creators of Second Life Linden Lab, the hugely successful iCrossing, Cogapp, WPM Internet, Madgex, Relentless, Club Penguin (Part of the Walt Disney Company), NCSoft, and Designate. The fair will be extensively promoted through The Argus, through outdoor advertising at Brighton & Hove station, through Wired Sussex and the networks of exhibiting companies.
Wired Sussex are launching the job fair as a direct response to many of its 1000+ digital media member companies with significant recruitment issues. Though the organisation has achieved much in terms of raising the profile of the new media industry in the south, it recognises that there is a bigger job to do in terms of beating the so-called ’brain-drain’, as it’s estimated that over half the city’s economically-active population still leave the city every day to earn a living.
Phil Jones, MD of Wired Sussex, said ‘There’s a disconnect between the number of fast-growing media companies desperate for the right staff in order to exploit opportunities available to them, and the number of people with the right skill-sets who still feel they need to get on a train to London every day in order to further their careers. This fair aims to address that by bringing these 2 groups together’.
Companies interested in exhibiting should contact Wired Sussex directly on firstname.lastname@example.org; those interested in attending as a job-seeker can register for free tickets at www.brightonjobfair.co.uk .
