Online shopping took 15% of total for Christmas
In the three months leading up to Christmas 2007 Internet shopping accounted for 15% of the total spend. According to IMRG the total pre-Christmas spend online was £15.2 billion.
This is significantly better than IMRG’s pre-Christmas prediction. In November IMRG estimated that online spending would increase by 42% on the previous year taking the total to £13.8 billion. The actual increase was 54%.
Retailers that performed particularly well were those that have a strong online presence as well as high street stores. And it is no coincidence that eight of the top 10 performing e-tailers also have a high street presence.
