Brighton’s major events to be eco-tested
Brighton & Hove City Council is proposing to apply a checklist to outdoor events to make gauge their impact on the environment and their contribution to the local economy.
The city hosts dozens of events every year and there is hardly a week-end when there isn’t something happening to attract residents and visitors but there is increasing demand for the space to host these occasions.
Those events that score highly will be given first priority but the Council have made it clear that no current events are under threat. However, some existing events have already attracted controversy including the speed trials and car rallies for their damage to the environment and Pride for its disruption of city centre retail.
Oxygen Event Services have been commissioned to prepare the assessment of events at a cost of £1,900.
