Brighton & Hove Greens seek to extend pub exclusion zone
The Green Party in Brighton and Hove is pushing to extend the proposed cumulative impact zone to include residential areas like Hanover and Lewes Road.
The aim of the scheme (see previous article in Knowledgebase) is to control the number of new licensed premises opening in the city and adding to the alcohol-fuelled problems that already exist.
The key problem venue types are pubs and clubs rather than restaurants.
Brighton & Hove Council was advised to extend the consultation period following a legal dispute initiated by the British Beer and Pub Association last year (see previous article in Knowledgebase). This extended period has now ended and a final decision will be reached at a full council meeting on 24 April.
