Shop West End the West End BID has just won a victory on its re-ballot. The BID was generously supported by the Mayor of London who having contributed £8 million to the original pot has pledged a further £17 million on the re-ballot.
The turnout for the ballot was 43% but the victory was won on a healthy 63% majority. The yes voters represented an impressive 73% of the total rateable value indicating that the big players were engaged and on board.
The BID will raise a total of £34 million - £17 million from BID levy payers and a further £17 million in match funding from Ken Livingstone.
The BID will continue to support the original projects of marketing, cleaning and security. The Redcaps and the Clean Team have become a familiar sight in the area and the marketing effort has had a notable impact on the number of visitors and increased consumer spending by millions of pounds.
BUSINESS FORUM COMMENT
With a cash injection of £17 million we should perhaps wonder why so few people turned out to vote and be astonished that anyone voted against it!
