As it becomes more and more difficult to smoke at work surely now is the ideal time to give it up altogether. Help is on hand to make it easier for staff to quit the habit.
Brighton & Hove City Council is working with the city's NHS stop smoking specialists to encourage businesses to hold stop smoking courses for their employees. Looking after staff health is a priority for any successful business
With free advice, support and courses, nicotine replacement therapy or medication there's never been a better time to quit smoking. More than 6,000 local people have already successfully stopped smoking with help from the NHS - why not join them this year?
The free courses are run as group or individual sessions and are available for small to large companies. A course consists of six one-hour sessions over six weeks and can be held in your workplace at a time that suits your business.
Successful courses have already been run in more than 43 local businesses, including EDF Energy, American Express, Legal and General, estate agents, pubs, B&H City Council and Brighton and Hove Bus Company. The courses were attended by 231 people and resulted in a 4 week quit rate of 71%.
The new healthy workplace adviser at the council can also support your business with free advice and assistance to help with smoking policies and procedures.
Working patterns can be a barrier for people accessing health care. Offering free stop smoking courses in workplaces can improve access, increase uptake and benefit individuals as well as businesses. Staff are the most important asset of a successful business. Good health is good for business.
