New lease of life for Lewes to Uckfield line?
Network Rail agrees to examine the possibility of reopening the Lewes to Uckfield railway line.
The Lewes to Uckfield train line has been closed since 1969, but Network Rail has now signed a contract with East Sussex County Council agreeing to carry out an in-depth viability study into whether the line could become operational again.

Mott MacDonald have been appointed to consider whether reopening the line is the most viable option or if other forms of transport such as light rail would be better. The results of the study are due to be published in June 2008.
Reopening the line could help to relieve pressure on the Lewes to London line which runs at maximum capacity during the rush hour.
