Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership (BHEP) has submitted its response to the Council's draft Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) on 'Sustainable Building Design'.
An SPD is one of the material considerations that can be taken into account when determining a planning application. It forms a part of the council's new Local Development Framework (LDF).
BHEP supports the overall principal of the Sustainable Building Design SPD, which will ultimately lead to an improvement in the environmental performance of developments in the city and welcomes the Council’s leadership on this issue.
However, the response expresses some concerns about the financial impact the standards may have on developers and consequently on the deliverability of future schemes in the city. BHEP supports a pragmatic approach that balances sustainability issues with the financial viability of schemes in order to avoid a development hiatus in the city.
