Recent Business Forum research shows that major towns and cities in the UK help to promote Christmas shopping through markets, music and grottos. On Saturday 8 December Brighton's New Road will host all three, attracting residents and visitors to do their Christmas shopping in Brighton.
New Road in Brighton was pedestrianised in spring 2007, and since then has been a much sought after location for cultural and other themed events. Brighton residents love their festivals, and in order to bring added value to both residents and businesses the Business Forum is working with Brighton and Hove City Council and New Era Associates to put on a special Christmas event entitled the Brighton Sparkles Market.
Festively decorated stalls will sell hot food, produce and gifts, musical entertainment will be provided throughout the day by local schools, choirs and the Salvation Army, and a grotto with gifts provided by Disneyland Paris will contribute to the traditional Christmas atmosphere.
Proceeds from the grotto will go to Sparkles and Surprises - a local children's charity - to provide holidays or days out for complex special needs children. See www.sparklesandsurprises.org.uk registered charity no.1120064.
The Salvation Army will be playing traditional carols over the lunch time period, and if you represent musicians or a choir who would like to help entertain the crowds please contact maddy.carr@btconnect.com or telephone 01273 735442.
We are appealing to Brighton businesses to provide raffle prizes and also prizes for a children's Christmas colouring competition, and all supporters will benefit from publicity through local media.
To reserve a stall for the sale of crafts and gifts please contact New Era Associates on 01273 323200 or e-mail: frank@neweraassociates.co.uk.
Further information about the day's events, timings, and road closure will be available on this website shortly.
