Until recently the manager of Churchill Square Shopping Centre and a founder member of the city centre management initiative in 1998, Derek Maddison is stepping down as Chair of the Board of the Business Forum due to a move to London.
Derek Maddison has been Chair of the Board of the Business Forum for nine years but his new job as a senior asset manager with a portfolio of shopping centres across the country has taken him to GVA Grimley’s headquarters in the West End.
Supported by the city council and a range of private sector businesses, the city centre management initiative has grown over the past nine years to extend its area of activity outside the core city centre.
It now employs nine staff and its projects include the award winning Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP), publication of the Shopping & Eating Out Guide, organising and coordinating markets and promotions in the city and providing the executive director and secretariat to the Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership (BHEP). It also established the first Business Improvement District (BID) on the south coast and only the second in the south east region and administers the BID projects.
