Do postal workers not realise that every time they strike their customers seek out an alternative provider?.. And if that provider is any good at all they will stick with them when the strike is over?.. And that this will ultimately put their jobs at risk?
Responding to the news that talks between Royal Mail and postal unions have failed to reach agreement British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) Policy Adviser Narinder Gill said, “Small firms rely on Royal Mail services to do business, and get hit in the pocket every time post is held up. Estimates suggest that each postal strikes costs the UKs small and medium sized businesses (SME’s) £2.5 million through delayed post.
“All that the strikes are achieving is disruption and the further degradation of the reputation of Royal Mail. An agreement needs to be reached soon or yet more customers will seek alternative solutions for their postal needs.”
BUSINESS FORUM COMMENT
An agreement needs to be reached but not at the expense of losing loyal customers. Perhaps postal workers need to think laterally like the famous Irish bus drivers who went on strike but didn’t stop picking up people and delivering them to their destination they just stopped collecting fares!
