Collaborate with Asia or be left behind
The thinktank Demos has warned UK industry that it will be left behind unless it recognises that Asian countries are making enormous strides in scientific research and they would make excellent partners for collaborative research and development.
Demos has called for a ring-fenced £100m government fund to promote and enable collaboration with countries like India, South Korea and China including scholarships for 200 Asian students per annum to visit Britain. According to OECD figures last year China moved ahead of Japan to become the second largest investor in science after America spending £4.7bn. India spent £2.3bn and the UK spent £3bn.
