M&S is back on top
Whether it is the Twiggy effect or sightings of Elizabeth Jagger in a sexy little red number there is no doubt about it Marks & Spencer is motoring in the right direction. Stuart Rose, chief executive, though still cautious, appears to have pulled M&S from the brink.
The company, which has been struggling to reassert its position as a market leader for the last six years has finally turned the tide and a handsome profit is in sight. It is on target to achieve well over £1bn this financial year - a perfomrnace not seen since the heady days of the 1980s.
Footfall has been rising since the beginning of the year and the conversion to sales is now in flow. A third of all the stores have been updated and service and products have been improved.
