The Hove Business Association held their AGM at the Claremont House Hotel on Wednesday 18 October, with guest speakers Soozie Campbell (City Centre Manager) and Gavin Stewart, Town Centre Manager for Hove.
Soozie Campbell provided a detailed update on the proposed Business Improvement District (BID) for Hove, which could raise £500,000 over 5 years to spend on a package of benefits that traders choose for themselves. Benefits could include services such as Christmas lights, marketing, extra security or professional help with keeping commercial rents and rates at an acceptable level. Feedback from the latest mailing to businesses showed that 86% of those traders who responded are considering a positive vote for a BID.
Members listened with interest to Gavin Stewart’s Vision for Hove, and he is already working to promote a positive image for the town, to increase footfall to the commercial areas, and to enhance local business prosperity.
The message throughout the evening was an extremely positive one with outgoing Chair Robin Wilson reporting on the achievements of the Association with the new website, enhanced package of benefits, and a series of social and networking events which has proved popular with its growing membership.
Robin thanked the committee members, who are all volunteers, for their hard work and support during his year in office and he wished his successor, local businessman Andrew Nichols, success in his new role.
A copy of the AGM minutes will be available next week on this website, and also on www.hovebusinessassociation.co.uk
