|Will it grow into an oak if red tape allows?|
British entrepreneurial spirit beaten down by red tape
Given the chance again 37% of Britain's entrepreneurs would not choose to start up their own business. A recent survey conducted by Sage's small business division found that red tape was considered to be an insurmountable obstacle for many small business owners.
Of the business owners consulted 42% blamed red tape for their loss of enthusiasm saying it would be the thing that came between them and a new business venture.
The survey also indicates that business owners become less innovative as the company grows. As the business matures owners seem to lose the drive and ambition that sparked them into action in the first place.
Some commentators have suggested that the findings of this survey are at odds with the Government's strategy to support entrepreneurialism with the right hand of the Government supporting small business through the SBS and Business Link the left holding it back through tax and legislation.
