UK online sales zoom
Sales on the internet passed £100bn in 2005 representing 5.5% of total UK sales according to the latest data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This is a growth rate of 56% compared to 2004 .
Three years ago the internet accounted for 2.2% of total UK sales and, even though the overall proportion of sales remains low at 5.5% the growth rate is encouraging increasing numbers of bricks and mortar outlets to have an online presence. Over 70% of companies now have a web site but business to business sales continue to dominate with £79 of every £100 spent online being between businesses but sales direct to consumers are growing at a rate of 40% (source Media in Retail Group)
