King Alfred scheme goes back to P&R
The new plans for the King Alfred development – necessitated by the opposition of English Heritage to the original scheme – are due to go back to the Council’s powerful Policy & Resources Committee for discussion on 28th September.
English Heritage’s objection to the scale of the perimeter of the scheme fronting onto Kingsway obliged developers Karis/ING and architect Frank Gehry to modify the plans prior to a new planning application. It is widely assumed that the two towers at the heart of the scheme will increase slightly in height while the Kingsway perimeter is reduced.
As owners of the site Brighton & Hove Council has already given permission in principle to the King Alfred development at the P&R Committee meeting on 6th June when the scheme was passed by the casting vote of the then Chair of the committee - Cllr Ken Bodfish.
