Brighton unemployment rate increases

Latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show that Brighton & Hove has the highest rate of unemployment in the south east at nearly twice the regional average.

At 6.4% Brighton & Hove compares unfavourably with the regional figure of 3.7% and the national figure of 5.4% as at May 2006. The figures should be viewed against a national backdrop of increasing unemployment (see earlier story in knowledgebase - Unemployment likely to be 1 million in three months - 14th April 2006)
