Brighton & Hove City Council planning committee approved the second planning application for the redevelopment of the outer harbour at Brighton Marina by a majority of 9:3 on Friday.
Barring any future challenge this means that work could start on the Wilkinson Eyre designed scheme, including the 40-storey tower dubbed the Roaring Forties, by the end of the year.
However, residents and conservation groups have pledged to fight the scheme and their first hope will be that the Government Office of the South East (GOSE) will call in the application for public inquiry although this seems unlikely.
The Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership (BHEP) supported the planning application (see earlier stories in knowledgebase)
