New Chair for the Brighton & Hove Hotels Association

At a recent meeting of the Brighton & Hove Hotels Association (BHHA), Mark Jones of Colson House Guest House was elected to position of Chair. Mark has been an active member of the Association since moving to the area from London where he worked as a senior manager for British Airways.

Mark believes that building good working relationships with other city stakeholders will lead to a better understanding of the tourism agenda. His focus will include the other strong business associations in the city, as well as VisitBrighton, the official tourism organisation for Brighton & Hove, and other council departments which impact on the visitor experience.

The aims of the BHHA are to provide a ‘voice’ for its members and to secure a position of strength for the future of the city’s hotel industry in the face of strong competition from other cities in the UK as well as Europe.

Brighton is known by its visitors as a destination for culture, fun, and for an undefinable experience which is just a bit ‘different’. Mark said “I am very positive about the future of Brighton & Hove as a continuing centre for high quality tourism – as long as we nurture and develop what makes the city so special. If the new Brighton Centre and other innovative planning projects currently under discussion are given the green light, the city will really expand its product offering to the visitor. We have visitor accommodation covering all price ranges and meeting all lifestyle needs, and with newly regenerated properties coming on line all the time we will be able to meet the demands that new attractions and iconic developments will generate. If these new developments do not come, it will be bad news for all of us – for those in the industry as well as those who rely on it for the city’s prosperity. I look forward to working with other key stakeholders to ensure the city’s future success.”

Mark has already achieved a major benefit for Brighton’s economy working with Visit Brighton to put forward a successful city bid for the Labour Party Conference in 2008 and 2009, and has instigated a hotel industry response to the severe water shortage in the South East.

All owners of local hotels and guesthouse are invited to meet Mark at the AGM of the BHHA. Click on for further details.
