Only Pokeno Pies in Gardner Street and Bill's in North Road actually won awards but Brighton got a mention as best in the south east for every single category.
London and the large cities dominated the first three places for most awards but Brighton figured prominently in the “Best of the Rest” for all of the other eight categories, which confirms its growing reputation as a the culinary centre of the south coast.
With more places to eat per head of population than anywhere outside London it is rapidly gaining recognition as a place where every taste is satisfied. Events like the Food & Drink Festival have increased the profile of its many faceted culinary offer which is reinforced by publicity like the Observer Food Awards.
Outlets that were included in the “Best of the Rest” category included; - Momma Cherri’s, Bills (which also got a two page feature), Due South (pictured), Taj Mahal Stores, Terre a Terre, the George Pub and the Black & White Bar at the Marina.
