Business world’s ‘Top Guns’ to advise Gordon Brown
Almost overshadowing what was, by most accounts, a surprisingly innocuous budget was the Chancellor’s announcement of that he will be using a star-studded cast of business leaders to help him formulate policy
The 12 strong advisory group reads like a great and good of the private sector including Terry Leahy (Tesco), Sir John Rose (Rolls Royce), Lee Scott (Wal-Mart), Li Ka-shing (Hutchinson Whampoa), Bill Gates (Microsoft) and Jean Pierre Garnier (GlaxoSmithKline). They will meet once a year for three years and advise on the challenges of globalisation and increasing productivity and address the UK’s falling position in the league table of cost competitiveness (from 3rd to 6th in two years).
