An interesting development happened this week as some businesses in Gardner Street that had previously indicated opposition to the idea of BIDs have changed their minds and now support the idea. This makes this street 55% in favour of a BID. Quite a turnaround from two weeks ago when support was only 38%.
Overall, however, across the whole BID area the figures have changed very little with those opposed to BIDs in principle declining by 1 percentage point and the undecided increasing by 1 percentage point. More visits, public meetings, surveys and phone calls will clarify the BID area by the end of the week.
If the undecided are removed from the equation 68.5% of the returns so far indicate support for a BID and 31.5% opposed. The Business Forum will be working hard this week to convince the “maybe” people of the benefits of a BID
Preferences for services are also little changed. First preferences now show 47% (Christmas lights) 27% (marketing) and 21% (increased security). Focus groups will be held over the next two weeks to fine tune the nature of the improvements that businesses would like to see.
