The FSB has welcomed plans from the Department of Trade & Industry to simplify legislation and lighten the administrative burden faced by business. The DTI's Simplification Plan ties in with the FSB's key policy principle of reducing the amount of red tape and regulation that stifles small businesses.
The FSB urged the DTI to consult the small business community on plans to simplify procedures so that any changes give maximum benefit to the UK's 4.3 million small businesses.
John Walker, FSB Policy Chairman, said, "We know from our own research that administrative burdens cost small businesses five times as much and take five times as long to implement as for large enterprises.
"Any reduction in this burden that the Simplification Plan can bring will be welcome to our members and should also help to free up small business owners to do their job of creating wealth and driving innovation.
"It is essential that the DTI actually delivers the objectives it has set out in the Simplification Plan. The FSB has a valuable contribution to make to this exercise and we hope that the DTI will come and talk to us to help ensure that the plan is successful."
