Newly elected Hove Business Association Chairman, Robin Wilson, welcomed local celebrity Dora Bryan to George Street, Hove on Wednesday 16 November to switch on the Christmas Lights.
The lights have been achieved as a result of a long campaign which was started early in 2005 by Robin's predecessor, Michael Squire. However, there are still concerns for Hove's festive season for 2006.
Dora Bryan took part in a lighting up ceremony in George Street on Wednesday 16 November, which was attended by members of the HBA, Brighton & Hove Council, lights supplier Blachere, and the Brighton and Hove Business Forum
Robin Wilson, Chairman of HBA, said,"After the complete darkness of last year it is a pleasure to have Christmas lights for the next six weeks leading up to Christmas. We are indebted to Susie Lovett of Blachere, the company who have arranged the lights in conjunction with HBA member Keith Bryden and John Edjvet from Brighton & Hove Council for his sterling work in organising the lights. We hope that the lights herald a more prosperous period of trading leading up to Christmas and that the lights can be extended next year into nearby streets".
Maddy Carr, Project Officer for the Brighton and Hove Business Forum, was also present at the ceremony, and added, "The Brighton and Hove Business Forum is delighted to see that the HBA has been successful in organising a Lights display for George Street this year. We hope that our ongoing work with the Council and local businesses to set up Business Improvement Districts (BIDS) in the city will provide a more extensive display of lights over the next five years".
