According to a new study by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) congestion is costing businesses £20 billion a year in lost productivity. That is more than £27,000 per year to each Brighton business.
The report estimates that the number of cars on the road increased by 70% between 1982 and 2003. If this trend continues it will soon be impossible to move on the roads and people will finally be forced to use alternative forms of transport.
But why wait for total grid-lock? ICE is calling on government and local authorities to invest in the public transport system and to create incentives to draw people out of their cars before crisis point is reached.
The Business Forum is doing its bit to relieve congestion in Brighton & Hove by campaigning for a sizeable park and ride facility. If you feel strongly about the growing problem of congestion please log your support for the campaign by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
