Brighton & Hove City Council have launched a scheme whereby businesses can be checked to ensure that they comply with the letter and spirit of the law and then entered onto a register of recommended service providers.
The scheme aims to reduce the exposure of the consumer to ‘cowboy’ tradespeople who exploit unwary residents.
Traders who apply to be included on the list will have to supply references, and stringent checks will be carried out by Trading Standards officers. Customers of traders on the list will be asked to send feedback forms to trading standards.
