The Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership has responded positively to the planning application by Southern Water to build a new wastewater treatment works at Lower Hoddern Farm in Peachehaven.
The controversial application is for a new facility which is needed to comply with EU directives on the secondary treatment of wastewater.
Brighton & Hove is the only location in Sussex, and one of a handful in the UK, which does not comply with the directives.
Currently 94million litres of wastewater per day is released into the sea which has only undergone primary treatment. Clearly from an environmental, social and economic point of view (the sea is one of Brighton & Hove’s greatest assets) this is not sustainable.
