Brighton & Hove City Council plans to launch a new web site to encourage debate on Park & Ride. Everyone has an opinion about the problems of parking and driving into the city centre – this will be your chance to air those views.
Park & Ride is the hottest issue to hit the city of Brighton & Hove since the West Pier went up in flames. Trade is suffering in the city centre because people who would normally drive are put off by the congestion. And the determined few who do manage to battle through the traffic are put off by the high cost and low availability of parking.
The economy of the city is dependant on its tourist trade, which supports 13,000 jobs. Visitors are vital to Brighton and if we continue to make it difficult for them to get into the city they will stop coming altogether. Park & Ride is not a solution in itself but is part of an overall strategy to improve the flow of visitors and their cash throughout the city.
A new park and ride site for the city is currently being investigated by transport and planning officers at Brighton & Hove City Council. They are looking closely at the feasibility of two sites – Patcham Court Farm and Braypool – and the results of their research will be presented to the policy & resources committee later this year.
