Charities Bill to be given another airing
The vital importance of the voluntary and community sector was highlighted by the Government as it published the Charities Bill, following its inclusion in the Queen's Speech.
The Bill is due to be tabled in Parliament in the near future. This presents an opportunity for recommendations to be made to remove the loophole that allows face-to-face fundraisers (otherwise known as chuggers) to operate without licences.
Brighton Pavilion MP David Lepper has presented a petition to Parliament on behalf of the Business Forum and North Laine Traders Association and has outlined the problems with the current voluntary code of practice. At present the code is not being adhered to and no one is policing the operation.
