Government to make life easier for small businesses
Changes to company law could save small businesses £100 million. The aim is to increase flexibility and understanding particularly for smaller companies.
The plans which follow Gordon Brown’s budget statement include:
- Restructuring areas of company law that are most relevant to small businesses, so that they are easier to understand;
- Simplifying the rules for forming a company;
- Abolishing the need for a company secretary;
- Making AGM opt in rather than opt out;
- New model articles.
The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) welcomed the measures, describing them as 'a significant first strike in the programme of deregulation'.
