The Sunday Times/Virgin Atlantic Fast Track 100 list, which provided a definitive league table of Britain's 100 fastest growing private companies has identified three that are based in Brighton & Hove.
The table lists companies with fastest growing sales over the past 3 years between 2000 to 2003. Below is a summary of the three companies and their ranking.
Rank 41, Teleticket, a tour operator was founded in 1999 has 18 employees and sells 85,000 airline seats a year to travel agents such as lastminute.com. Sales growth 2000 to 2003 94.79%
Rank 78, Babel Media, Games service provider, Tests all the games that can be played on Vodafone mobile phones, was founded in 1999 also and has 55 staff. The Sales growth 2000 to 2003 was 74.12% Excerpt from The Argus Friday 12th November was that Babel demand for games testers Babel Media, Fonthill Road , Hove has hired 260 extra staff and 400 support workers in response to unprecedented demand. The company which has offices in New Delhi and San Diego expects the demand to continue until Easter.
Rank 81, SMS (Southern), a building services contractor, has a five year deal with the City Council to refurbish local schools, was founded in 1999 and has 37 employees, 67.7%
The Criteria used to compile the list was: Sales measured in compound annual growth rate over 3 years, sales to exceed £250k in 2000 and £3m in 2003 Companies had to have 10 or more employees and be making a profit before tax They had to be registered in the UK as independent unquoted companies or ultimate holding companies not subsidiaries A minimum of 25 weeks per year trading and figures annualised on a pro rata basis.
Companies had to be in business for at least four years from 2000 and show year on year sales increases from 2002 in their forecast or actual turnover in 2004
