King Alfred project gets the green light
Proposals to redevelop the King Alfred took a significant step forward last week. Brighton & Hove City Council and Karis Holdings (a joint venture company formed by Karis Developments and ING Real Estate) came together to sign the King Alfred Development Agreement (the legal contract). The detailed design will now begin with a view to public presentations in June 2005.
The development agreement commits Karis to build a new £30million sport and leisure centre plus 590 homes, 40% of which will be affordable. Detailed briefs for each aspect of the development have been drawn up in partnership with the Council and in consultation with groups and organisations across the city and form part of the agreement. A full planning application for the site will be submitted in June next year, when the public will be able to see and comment on the detailed design. It is important that the business community in Hove is involved in the consultation process as this development will have a significant impact on future business. There is a real opportunity to ensure that the impact is entirely positive. The Hove Business Association (HBA) has been involved in discussions to date and welcomes the views of its members.
