Work will begin in the New Year to transform industrial site Westergate House on Moulsecoomb Way. About £2 million has been allocated to the energy efficient project.
Reigate-based Benson Limited, has secured the contract to create one of the most exciting sustainable projects in the South East. Work will commence on site on 10 January with the project due for completion at the end of August 2005.
The flagship business centre is a regional first and will boast growing walls, solar water heating, heat reclamation and electricity generating wind turbines.
Jointly funded by South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) and eb4U (east brighton for you), and formulated by the Brighton & Hove Regeneration Partnership in collaboration with Brighton & Hove City Council, the Westergate House project will be a benchmark in sustainability in the South East.
Benson Regional Managing Director Rob Leitch said, "Meeting the green agenda has been the biggest challenge. This is such an innovative project and one that will be exciting to see come to life."
Six construction companies tendered for the Westergate House project contract in June. Benson signed the contract last Friday.
The Westergate House project will:
- Comprise 20,900 square feet (1,942 square metres) of new light industrial Space
- Provide opportunity for up to 90 jobs and 30 businesses.
