Planning permission has been granted for 74 affordable flats to be built on the Endeavour site (90-96 Preston Road). One five storey block and one six-storey block will be built on the western end of the site, fronting Preston Road.
The flats will be a mixture of sizes: 37 one-bedroom, 34 two-bedroom and three three-bedroom and will all be offered by Southern Housing Group for shared ownership. Shared ownership means that the tenant owns part of the property and pays rent to a Housing Association for the remainder. Shared ownership offers a low cost route into home ownership.
Planning approval was granted in 2002 for a very similar scheme. This new application makes a few small changes to the original, involving a slight relocation of the two blocks and some minor changes to the external elevations and the internal layouts.
Cllr Bob Carden, chair of the planning-sub committee, said, "The high standard of design, the affordable housing, the 'very good' score on the sustainability EcoHomes rating and the car club the developers have promised to fund make this development a very welcome addition to this prominent site."
