Letter to the editor: Separate lanes and twice as many buses for A259
The proposed bus and cycle lanes along the A259 between Ovingdean and Teslcombe, currently being displayed in a consultation exercise, are to be welcomed.
This is one of the most congested stretches of road in the city with crawling city-bound traffic a regular feature between Peacehaven and Rottingdean every morning. By creating additional roadspace along the clifftop road exclusively for buses, without reducing the roadspace for the queueing traffic, a faster and more efficient journey can be provided for hundreds of commuters opting to use public transport. Both Brighton & Hove Buses and Stagecoach have just announced plans to double the service between Seaford and Brighton even in advance of the bus lanes being implemented, providing a bus every 7-8 minutes and with other buses serving Peacehaven and Saltdean there will be a bus every 4 minutes from the Longrdidge Avenue junction into Brighton from September 2004.
