According to a new report from Verdict the privately owned corner shop will have to fight hard to survive the next few years.
Supermarkets operating outside of town centres are raising the competition by forcing down prices and increasing the range of goods they provide.
The report goes on to say that small corner shops are likely to be targeted for purchase by expanding multiples who are keen to tap the growing demand for convenience.
One way that small shops can fight back and retain their independence is to take advantage of the available technology that is now more affordable than ever before. The Brighton City Centre Business Forum is running an event on 27 April to expose the benefits of new technology in shops. All independent retailers are welcome to come along and learn how to be more profitable while enjoying a free lunch and a drinks reception in the evening.
