Smoke Free Liverpool, Will Brighton Follow?
Health agencies, the local authority and key businesses have decided to make Liverpool a smoke free city by the time is assumes Capital of Culture status in 2008. Is the anti-smoking agenda gaining ground?
Supporters of the idea point to New York where hospitality businesses claim to have seen a rise in profits since the ban was introduced in 2002. Dublin is also in the process of introducing the ban. An on-line poll in London recently found 64% of respondents to be in favour of a total ban in restaurants. Brighton & Hove primary care trust and the local authority are in the process of investigating the feasibility of a ban in the city.
