Retail sales in Brighton are down more than the national average
A new report from the London Retail Consortium states that retail sales in central London decreased by 0.01% over the Christmas period (December) compared with last year. This compares favourably with the national average but only by a very small margin. Meanwhile sales in Brighton over the same period are reported to be down by as much as 7 – 10%.
Soozie Campbell, Brighton’s city centre manager, says. “Retailers in Brighton have suffered a really harsh Christmas and the coming year holds little promise as many face rent reviews and increasing caution amongst consumers. Traders need to take action to ensure that they run a very tight operation. And there are many ways that they can fight back and make more money from their efforts.
“The Business Forum is running an event designed to expose some routes to increased profitability for retailers. The event will be free of charge and will be staged at The Dome in central Brighton on 27 April 2004. For full details contact Soozie Campbell at Soozie@mmp.co.uk
