Circus Street nearly ripe for development
The city centre wholesale fruit and veg market will be relocating to a new purpose made building at Hollingbury Industrial Estate later in the year. This leaves the way clear for development of the existing plot.
In the Local Plan the site, which is owned by the Council and the University of Brighton, is earmarked for housing (40% of which would have to be affordable) but there is scope to include a mixed use and the possibilty of a Creation Centre for the Arts is being explored. It is hoped that the site will be clear by the end of 2004.
