|Watch out for George!|
Elizabeth Fry ousts George Stephenson on a Fiver
The Bank of England has announced that the old style £5 notes showing George Stephenson are to be withdrawn from circulation after 21st November when they will no longer be legal tender.
While most banks and building societies will probably accept the old notes after this date they are under no obligation to do so and shops and restaurants would be well advised to decline to accept them. After a limited period holders will only be able to exchange them for new notes at the Bank of England in London.
