CONSULTATION on proposals for an enlarged residents' parking scheme for the Queens Park area will take place from mid-November if agreed by the environment committee next week, Thursday, 23 October.
Part of this area already has a parking scheme and surveys have shown that there are insufficient spaces for residents. A larger zone would give much greater flexibility and provide more opportunities for residents to park near their homes.
The proposed area also includes shops, small hotels and one of the city's biggest businesses American Express. The scheme suggests a mixture of residents' only and shared parking bays available for businesses and visitors.
If agreed in principle, residents and businesses will receive leaflets and questionnaires from 17 November and public exhibitions will be arranged in November, December and January.
Councillor Simon Battle, deputy chair of the environment committee, said, "Introducing a large 'shared' parking scheme in this area will give us the flexibility to help redress the shortage of residents' parking places and still provide some parking for businesses."
