M&S Credit Card Gaff
Marks & Spencer has come in for criticism since the launch of its credit card “&More” because it has dispatched the new cards to 2.6m existing customers who hold store cards.
This is against the rules of the Office of Fair Trading which, in an effort to curb inertia selling (which in turn fuels credit card debt), state that credit card can only be issued to people who have specifically requested them in writing.
Marks & Spencer defended their action by saying that they were simply replacing an existing card with an updated version but yesterday they were forced to rescind this practice when the OFT ruled against them. The &More card is part of a plan to rebrand the financial services arm of M&S.
