Burden of red tape intensifies for SMEs
New research has revealed that 97% of small firms believe their burden of red tape has not improved over the past year with the majority feeling it has actually got worse.
Just six months after Chancellor Gordon Brown's budget pledge to reduce the burden of regulation, the report by the Bank of Scotland found 68% of SMEs believed the amount of paperwork they have to deal with has risen during the last 12 months. Only 1% said it had lessened.
