Street Drinking Consultation
Brighton & Hove City Council intends to extend the street drinking ban (currently restricted to St James's Street) across the city. Interested parties have until 18th July 2003 to make their views known
The ban would mean that a police officer could require any person not to consume alcohol in a public place and refusal to desist would result in confiscation and a possible fine of £500.
The ban is aimed at the increasing problem of anti-social street drinking and is not intended to prevent a family having a picnic on the beach. It coincides with the introduction of tough measures in Westminster and Camden that may result in an influx of street drinkers into the Brighton.
