Marina Capitalises on Brighton's Parking Regime
In their most recent advert in the Argus, Brighton Marina are promoting the advantages of their free parking, not least of which is the absence of parking tickets.
The ad, spread over two pages, depicts an harassed lady shopper tearing her hair out over a parking ticket with an officious looking parking attendant in the background and the strapline "turn over for a different view" On the next page in the same position the smiling image shown above greets the reader together with the assurance that there are no wardens to police the 1600 parking spaces. Elements of the new retail offer at the Marina compete directly with some city centre stores, particularly discount fashion, and the adverts are certain to be greeted with dismay by city centre retailers. It is a great shame that an attraction that is undergoing major redevelopment and supposedly trying to improve its links with the city centre has chosen to invoke a spirit of determined competition in this advert.
