Planning Application Imminent for Wastewater Treatment Works
Five councils in the south east have been consulted on the proposed sewage works which are needed to cope with wastewater and sludge from this heavily populated corner of the south east but all possibilities are likely to be controversial.
The new works are necessary to comply with EU Directives and the proposed sites are Shoreham Harbour, Black Rock & Kemp Town Gas Works, Sheepcote Valley (Upper and Lower), Ovingdean, Peacehaven, Brookside Farm (Newhaven) and North Quay (Newhaven). Extensive surveys will now be carried out on all eight sitesto ensure that they are suitable for the purpose in preparation for a planning application in late spring 2003 but already opposition groups have gathered to protest about every site.
Click on download below for a summary of the options
For a more detailed investigation of the sites visit www.southernwater.co.uk
