At a consultation meeting held in the Business Forum offices last year, small businesses told the Council what improvements they would like to see in the city centre. The local authority listened and is about to deliver
Brighton & Hove City Council has just awarded a £46,000 contract for street washing and chewing gum removal in the city centre which is due to start in spring and be completed by the end of March. It is being carried out by The Chewing Gum Removal Company and will remove staining and chewing gum from 76,000 sq m of paved surfaces as well as jet washing street furniture up to a distance of 2 metres from street level.
They are also inviting tenders for a £30,000 one-off graffiti removal treatment also covering the city centre, which will again be complete by the end of March this year.
In addition 268 floor mounted litter bins with cigarette stubber plates are due to be installed at the beginning of March.
After the clean up operation It will be more important than ever that businesses take responsibility for graffiti on their own property and clean it off promptly.
