Another successful application for an Anti Social Behaviour Order against a persistent offender in the city centre
Following on from the successful Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) against Joshua Haggart, reported in the last edition (September 02) a second order has been issued against persistent offender Samuel Smeaton. Working in conjunction with Sussex Police the Business Forum's retail crime initiative (RCI) collated a dossier of evidence against the offender who was one of the most prolific in the city centre.
This is the second time that our database of criminal activity has been used in court and, for the second time the validity of the evidence stood up to considerable cross-examination.
The Business Forum has now taken delivery of new computer equipment and the Home Office approved BICS software (Business Information Crime System) from Retail Decisions. This will allow much more powerful manipulation of data and more accurate intelligence to feed back to city centre businesses.
Unfortunately for persistent offenders it will also mean more hard evidence to be presented in court at future ASBO hearings
